George Andrews, President of the American Mathematical Society (AMS) sends his congratulations to John Tate on winning the Abel Prize.

The work of John Tate has been central to the major developments in number theory through the last half of the twentieth century and into the twenty first. From 1950 onward, beginning with the legendary "Tate's thesis," John Tate has been a dominant figure in algebraic number theory and algebraic geometry. The American Mathematical Society extends heartfelt congratulations to John Tate on the award to him of the 2010 Abel Prize.
